Urs was infected with the "brass virus" by his father as a child. At the age of 10, he received his first music lessons as a young brass player in the Blaukreuzmusik Gürbetal. After a short period of training, he played in the "big band". Urs spent most of his free time practising and making music with his family, and after completing his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker, he was able to realise his wish to study music.
In 1979, he began his studies at the Bern Conservatory, majoring in horn and minoring in conducting, chamber music and piano. He successfully completed his studies in 1983 with an orchestral and teaching diploma. Further studies and masterclasses in horn, conducting and chamber music followed. As a horn player, he played in various orchestras and ensembles.
In 1986, he was given the opportunity to apply his knowledge as a conductor with the Steffisburg Music Society. He enjoyed this work so much that he began studying to become a wind band conductor at the Bern University of the Arts. From 1985 to 1991, he taught horn at the Gürbetal Music School, and in addition to his work as a horn teacher, he also conducted the music school's symphony orchestra for 17 years and was musical director of the Gürbetal Brass Band for 34 years. as founder and musical director of the Gürbetal Youth Music and as guest conductor of various music societies, he worked tirelessly to promote brass music.
Since his retirement, arranging and composing brass band and youth orchestra music has become his new passion.
